The Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu & Kashmir, the Election Authority under Panchayati Raj Act, 1989 has announced Elections in J&K State. Poonch has a total of 189 Panchayats in six Blocks of the District. With the issue of Notification on 5th of April 2011, for Surankote and Buffliaz Blocks , Panchayats Elections shall Commence in District Poonch.The Elections in District Poonch are in four phases. Surankote and Buffliaz Blocks are going for polls if necessary on 4th of May, 2011, Balakote on 21st of May,2011, Poonch and Mandi Blocks on 29th of May, 2011 and finally Mendhar on 2nd of June, 2011.
